Advanced Tests - Subjective Questions

Subjective questions can be added in sections. Sections allow you to group similar questions if desired. A subjective section contains one or more write-in areas where students write an open response to an essay, short answer, etc., type of question. Subjective questions can be combined with bubbles so that teachers can bubble in the points earned for the question prior to scanning. Or the points earned can be added after scanning using the review options.

To add subjective sections

  1. Click New under Subjective Sections. If you have previously created subjective questions, you can reuse the properties you set before by choosing from the Recent list.
  2. Enter a Title for the section (optional).
  3. Enter the number of Questions, up to 50.
  4. Choose the alignment of the question on the page: Auto, Left or Right.
  5. Enter the Maximum and Minimum Points earned for each question. These settings tell the application how to present the bubbles on the form (e.g., 1-5 or two rows of 0-9 for a two digit number).
  6. Choose a Format:
    1. Bubbles with Write-In Box: This format places the bubbles above a box where students can write their answers. The teacher fills in the points earned using the bubbles.
    2. Bubbles Only: This format only places bubbles on the form. The written answer is captured elsewhere (e.g., on the back of the test or a separate piece of paper). The teacher fills in the points earned using the bubbles.
    3. Write-In Box Only: This format only places a box on the form. When you review the tests in the application (after scanning) you enter the number of points earned for the question.
  7. If you chose Bubbles with Write-In Box or Write-In Box Only:
    1. Choose a Style for the box: Default (No Fill), Horizontal lines or Grid.
    2. Set the Write-In Box Height: Custom, Remainder of Current Page, Span 1 Page, Span 2 Pages, Span 3 Pages, Span 4 Pages, Span 5 Pages. This setting determines how much space to provide for the written answer.
    3. If using the Custom size, set the height of the write-in box in inches.
  8. Choose the desired formatting options:
    1. Restart question numbering: Starts the section over at 1.
    2. Insert line break before section: Places a horizontal line before the section of questions.
    3. Insert page break before section: Places the section of questions on the next page.
    4. Click the Add button to add the section.
  9. Continue adding subjective sections of questions as needed.
